Building knowledge, bridging communities: Health Literacy Asia’s journey

As 2025 draws to a close, it marks a meaningful milestone in the journey of Health Literacy Asia—a journey shaped by purpose, collaboration, and a strong commitment to evidence-based health communication. From the very beginning, the initiative has been supported by Pfizer, whose funding has allowed us to strengthen public understanding of health through accurate, accessible, and research-driven information.

Health Literacy Asia was established in 2023 with a focus on vaccination literacy, addressing prevention, common myths, and emerging scientific research. Early on, we recognized the importance of providing communities with reliable information in an increasingly complex and crowded information landscape. Through Pfizer’s support, we were able to build a strong foundation for this work, ensuring the projects we launched were grounded in science and tailored to real needs.

In 2024, our reach expanded across multiple countries, reflecting the diversity of healthcare systems and cultural contexts in the region. Health professionals and contributors shared localized vaccination content, helping communities understand preventive health measures relevant to them. During this phase, Project Achieve, a personal narrative initiative, was introduced. Although challenging to finalize due to its personalized nature, it gradually took shape and began to illustrate real-life experiences in vaccination literacy, making the content relatable and impactful. Finalizing Project Achieve was challenging, but it taught us how to adapt narratives sensitively to cultural contexts while maintaining accuracy.

By the end of 2025, Health Literacy Asia had published over 200 articles, reaching communities across the region and sharing content widely via LinkedIn and other social media platforms. These stories have helped us connect with health professionals and the public, sparking meaningful conversations about preventive health and vaccination.

A defining milestone this year was officially becoming part of the Asian Health Literacy Association (AHLA), Taiwan, strengthening our connection to the global health literacy community. This aligned with AHLA’s 11th International Health Literacy Conference in Taichung, Taiwan, which brought together more than 200 participants from 21 countries to explore innovative strategies in health literacy. Digital health and artificial intelligence were highlighted as key tools to improve access to accurate, personalized health information. The event also celebrated AHLA’s 12th anniversary, recognizing its sustained impact in advancing health literacy through research, collaboration, and policy engagement.

Looking back, the journey of Health Literacy Asia has been both rewarding and full of learning. With the support of Pfizer, the initiatives we launched are gaining recognition and making a real impact. What began as a focused health communication project has grown into something much bigger: a contributor to health literacy across the region and beyond.

As we move into 2026, Health Literacy Asia aims to expand our digital health tools for personalized health education and continue fostering collaboration across borders to ensure that accurate, evidence-based health information reaches everyone who needs it. None of this would be possible without our dedicated contributors, health professionals, and partners like Pfizer, who have supported our vision.
